| Frequently Asked Questions |
1: When should I
call 911? Anytime you feel
there is an immediate danger to life, health or property, you
should call 911 imediately, the sooner dispatch can get
emergency services in route to your location the better.
This could be the difference between life and death or damage
and a complete loss of property. It's better to be safe
than sorry.
|
2:
What's the average response time for an emergency call?
Several factors can play a role in a typical response time.
Keep in mind that police and ambulance personnel are paid
responders, however they also cover the entire county which can
greatly impeed response times. First responders and
firefighters are volunteers, so other factors can affect
response times:
| |
- Time of day may reduce available responders
|
|
- Weather conditions can greatly affect response
time
|
|
- Location of the emergency in relation to the
fire department
|
| |
- Something as simple as
address markings at the roadway or front of the
structure can hinder response times
|
| |
- In a disaster situation or
bad weather the phone lines can become overwhelmed
with emergency calls
|
However a typical response from the fire department's first page
may be as little as 6-7 minutes or as much as 10-15 minutes.
We strive to respond as quickly and safely as possible, this is
why your quick reaction and calling 911 as soon as possible is
important to a good outcome. |
